Students may select one day from each line that applies to them. If students are applying to Texas public colleges, they would select one day for Apply Texas essays and one day for the Apply Texas application. For students applying to out of state colleges using the Common App, they would chose a date for the Common App essays and the Common Application itself (August 2).

Jul 17, 2017 - The University of Texas has published its own essay prompts, which are not part of the Common Application

I recommend heeding their advice, especially if you’re requiring more than one of their prompts. For example, if Texas A&M is on your list, they require a response to Topic A and Topic B, but they also encourage you to submit Topic C if you don’t qualify for automatic admission. That’s three major essays! Now think of the admission officer reading all those essays. I promise, no matter how good of a writer you are, your admission officer does not want to read three 1000 word essays when she has a pile of other applications to get through that day.You can use the - available August 1 - or - available July 1 - to apply to TLU. If you’re applying to several colleges, including colleges outside of Texas, you'll want to use the Common Application. If you are applying to Texas colleges only, you can use Apply Texas. Make sure your personal essay is customized for the college to which you are applying.

Along with your ApplyTexas application, submit at least one essay.

NO! The general personal statement or essay on ApplyTexas or CommonApp will be sent to EVERY school you apply to! Most schools, however, have a supplemental application which has questions and essays that will be submitted only to them. Use these supplemental essays to express your love for a school, not the general essay!

When the 2016-2017 application opened a few days ago, I noticed they added some guiding text on the essay page directly answering this question:
