ApplyTexas – Undergraduate Essay Topics

While Texas State does not require an admission essay from transfers applicants with 1-29 transferable semester hours, we highly recommend that you submit one with your application. To help with this exercise, the Texas State English Department compiled the following checklists. The Admission Essay topics A, B and C below are the same topics found on the application.

As the ApplyTexas application becomes more and more popular (more than 1.4 million applications were submitted this past year with about 300,000 of those applications coming from students outside of Texas), the ApplyTexas folks seem to be working to simplify and clarify their process a bit more each year. When the 2016-2017 application opened a few days ago, I noticed they added some guiding text on the essay page directly answering this question:You can use the - available August 1 - or - available July 1 - to apply to TLU. If you’re applying to several colleges, including colleges outside of Texas, you'll want to use the Common Application. If you are applying to Texas colleges only, you can use Apply Texas. Make sure your personal essay is customized for the college to which you are applying.

, the , and the have all officially published the required supplemental essays that go along with their Common Application essay, ending months of speculation about what some of the additional gate-keeper questions will be. The University of Texas has published its own essay prompts, which are not part of the Common Application. And those applying to will want to know that their prompts – always fun to do – went online a while back, and this year’s list still includes one of my favorite questions: “What makes you happy?”

Additional Information Needed
Once you have completed your online application with optional essay, you will also need to submit the following items in order to complete your application process:

1) A non-refundable $25 processing fee (payable to Schreiner University).


2) Official high school transcript with class rank.

3) An official copy of your ACT or SAT scores (including writing scores)
(NOTE: Send ALL SAT scores; Schreiner does not participate in Score Choice)

4) Have you taken any Advanced Placement exams or dual credit college courses? Submit all official AP Exam scores or official college transcripts to be considered for Schreiner course credit.
