St. John’s Episcopal School inducted 32 members to its chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) April 26. The process to becoming a member begins with an invitation to seventh or eighth grade students who maintained a grade average of 93% or above over the past five trimesters. Students then go through a multi-step application process, including a written essay explaining why they should be in NJHS and how they have demonstrated its five pillars - scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) recognizes outstanding middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) officially established NJHS in 1929, eight years after it founded National Honor Society for high school students.
Students who qualify must submit an application and essay, and are selected based on the five criteria. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

If they are inducted, they will begin their 8th grade year in NJHS. If students do not qualify in 7th grade or did not return their application, they have an opportunity to be inducted in 8th grade after the first semester grades post. Once the scholarship requirement has been met, students are given an application to fill out which allows them to describe how they meet the other four characteristics. Students are also asked to write an essay with their application. All applications must be completed with signatures by the assigned deadline. Applications are evaluated and those that meet the requirements are invited to be inducted into our NJHS chapter.

Students must return their completed application to be considered for membership to the NJHS Grace Christian School Chapter. Students who choose not to return their application and essays will not be considered for membership.
