St. Mary’s College of Maryland admits students with records of high academic achievement, personal abilities and accomplishments of superior quality. High school or college grades, the quality of course selection, standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation provide evidence of academic accomplishment and potential. These measures are supplemented by the required application essay(s). Involvement outside the classroom and in the community is also given much attention.

Students of the University of Maryland may receive up to 3 academic credits for their work during the summer. Students from institutions other than the University of Maryland may request transfer credit from home institutions subject to the constraints imposed by their degree program.The TREND Program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only. Students must be currently enrolled in a college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2017 or later. The minimum preferred GPA is 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. (Motivated students without the recommended GPA may apply, but such applications will only be considered if special mitigating circumstances exist.) The following items must be submitted to the TREND Program: application form, essay, two letters of recommendation, and an unofficial transcript. The online application and essay link may be found on . The application form and essay should be submitted through the online form. Letters of recommendation may be submitted electronically to or mailed to Prof. Girvan at the address below (note that TREND will not send out requests for letters of recommendation; this is the applicant's responsibility).
