Brown is a member of the consortium of colleges and universities belonging to the . Applicants must submit the Common Application "First-Year Application."
Additionally, applicants must complete the Brown Supplement, which is available along with the Common Application forms from the Common Application website. The Brown Supplement includes TWO (2) required essays for PLME applicants.

University policy dictates that no candidate for admission be denied solely on the basis of the degree program for which he or she seeks consideration. Therefore, those applicants not admitted to the PLME are still considered candidates to the College for the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree.

Students who wish to apply to the five-year program must submit separate applications to RISD and to Brown, as well as submit the supplementary essay for the Dual Degree program at the time of application. Each admission office will conduct a separate evaluation before joint consideration for the Dual Degree Program. Consequently, it is possible that a student could be admitted to RISD only, to Brown only, or to both Brown and RISD but not to the Dual Degree program.
