Sep 6, 2015 - Application essay for university of illinois

One Sunday night in October of 2006, I sat down to write an application essay…an essay for the University of Illinois. Looking back, it was probably one of the most important points in determining my future, but I slapped something together in 30 minutes to an hour.

Have you faced any challenges throughout your academic career that you feel we should be aware of while reviewing your application? Yes

I have faced the passing of a family member or friend:

On August 19, 2015 my mother came into my room about 3:00 a.m. and she didn't say a word, she just layed in the bed and held me. My grandmother passed away after battling heart disease, an abdominal aortic aneurysm, blood on her brain which cause a mini stroke and cancer. She was only sick for a year, but in the year she was in and out of the hospital almost every other week with something else wrong. She fought as hard as she could and she will forever be my role model and is definitely the strongest women I know. August 19th was suppose to be the first day of my senior year, a time that I should have been happy and excited, but the death of my grandmother made this the absolute worst day of my life. I can honestly say my grandmother has helped me get through the last few months of school, volleyball, homework and now this college applications and essays and personal statements. She has made me stronger and I am so blesses to have had her in my life.

Do you have a low grade or a drop in grades that you have not already explained? Is there anything else we need to know regarding your academic history?

Yes my ACT score is only a 23 I have taken the test 4 times and I just can't get anything higher that a 23. I have taken a ACT Prep class, I bought the ACT prep book from the website, I took the ACT prep online. I have really tried to get a higher score. The last time I took the ACT this last September 2015 I was so positive that I did better than any of the other tests. I just can't take test like the ACT or the Standardized tests in grammar school. I can take regular tests in school for any of the classes. If you look at the grades through out high school you will see that Im a good student and have maintained at least a 4.0 GPA. I rank between 16-21 in my high school class. I also have maintained all Honors or AP classes. I just hope my ACT score doesn't hurt my chances at getting an education at U of I and my admission to such a well known university in Illinois. I will take the ACT again in the near future to try one more time at a higher score.
